Founded in 1989, PACIN (Packing, Art Handling, and Crating Information Network)
is dedicated to expanding the network of information and resources available to
the museum and art handling communities with the goal of improving art handling
professionalism. Areas of focus include packing, crating, shipping, rigging, storage,
installation, mount making, exhibition fabrication, technical and material updates,
educational and training opportunities, and job descriptions and responsibilities.
Our previous
conference sessions and workshops, held on a national and regional basis, have
centered on topics as wide ranging as crating, airport security, art-handling,
sculpture rigging, fine art insurance, installation hardware and techniques and
pinewood nematode remediation. Our
constituency is comprised of museum and gallery preparators throughout the world,
as well as Registrars and commercial art handlers. However, any interested individual,
group or company, is welcome to join PACIN and by doing so, helps us to fulfill
our mission. PACIN
also has developed three publications on packing and crating methods and materials
-- "Soft Packing, Methods and Methodology for the Packing and Transport of
Art and Artifacts", "The Crate Itself, Proven Design Techniques and
Alternative Ideas" and "Technical Drawing Handbook of Packing and Crating
methods." Originally
a task force of the Registrar's Committee of the American Association of Museums
(RC-AAM), PACIN applied for and was granted the status of Professional Interest
Committee by the American Association of Museums (AAM) in 1997. PACIN
is directed by an International Steering Committee comprised of museum and commercial
professionals from each region of the United States, and at-large members from
Australia and Canada. PACIN
is a non-profit, all volunteer group and your membership fees and donations are
important in helping to sponsor our seminars, publications and other future programs.
We are here to give you a voice, strengthen your knowledge and provide the opportunity
to obtain and share information with others of similar interests across the country
and around the world. |
