UNIVERSITY ART MUSEUM REGISTRAR/CURATOR OF COLLECTIONS

The University Art Museum, California State University, Long Beach is seeking an experienced registrar for a full-time position in a contemporary art museum.

The registrar/curator of the permanent collection is responsible for the safety, shipment, insurance, record keeping, and handling of all incoming and outgoing works of art; care and handling of all works of art at the museum including storage, packing, shipping, condition reports, conservation, installation standards, and risk management; maintenance and appropriate disbursement of all files, records, installation/circulation instructions, receipts, visual documentation, and research on both works in the permanent collection and on loan for special exhibitions; and planning, scheduling, and research for permanent collection exhibitions including assisting in related grant proposals and budgets, creation and preparation of education materials and publications, and implementation of presentations, special events, and tours.

The registrar/curator of the permanent collection must be comfortable working with both traditional and new media projects; working with a diverse group of staff, students, artists, and scholars; implementing projects in context of a university environment; and working in within demanding timeframes. Ability to conduct collections research, train and supervise students, and work with conservators desired.
